Rachel Darwin grew up in the countryside near Bath. At nine, she was in her first musical, which began a lifelong love of singing and performing. At twelve, she started making fairy wings, which she sold at local festivals and wore wherever she went! At eighteen, Rachel moved to London, where she worked as a professional singer, a singing teacher… and also a nanny, which inspired her to write children’s books. After fifteen years in London, Rachel now lives with her husband in Bath.
Rachel has a degree in English Literature from Roehampton University, where she focussed on Children’s Literature at their National Centre for Research in Children’s Literature, and a Master’s in Creative and Life Writing from Goldsmith’s University. In 2021, she won the Bath Children’s Novel Award. You can read her winner’s interview here. In 2023, she was shortlisted for the same award, and in 2024 she made the longlist again.
Rachel is currently working on a middle grade faerie fantasy.
